    Forum Description

Listen to this article - 2:33 minutes

Coding and programming skills are some of the most in-demand abilities in the modern job market. As many more services transition to digital and online technologies, there is a need for skilled professionals that can write and understand different code types. If you are a beginner, remember all programming languages are slightly similar. However, how you use the basic structure to solve the problems differs significantly for every programming language. In this article at Hackernoon, Jure Reljanović shares similarities in top programming languages.

Similarities in Top Programming Languages that You Must Know

    Sequencing

This is one of the foundational concepts in all coding languages. Sequencing outlines a proper order for instructions and patterns when writing code or developing software. Furthermore, elements such as the use of appropriate syntax in code and specifics about functions, operators, methods, and parameters are found in most coding languages.

    Abstraction

The abstraction process is to preserve information relevant to a specific context. Good abstractions reduce complexity and allow developers to make changes to the code with greater ease and fewer bugs. Creating abstraction layers offers three significant benefits—centralization, simplicity, and better testing—and drastically improves the code.

Control Structures in Top Programming Languages

Control structures influence the code flow and how the computer determines what to do next. Additionally, these structures allow developers to efficiently and accurately write code. The conditional IF-THEN or IF-THEN-ELSE control structure enables a program to follow alternative execution paths. Control structures can repeat a sequence of steps as often as required to solve complex problems.

    Data Structures

Another shared similarity in top programming languages is data structures. They help a programmer organize and process data. In other words, data structures specify data types and which operations can be performed on them. Simple data structures include integers, real numbers, and characters or character strings.
